Vote for Housing

Today, I saw a a news article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the construction of luxury housing in the Mission and the building of apartments, condos, and restaurants in the Giants stadium parking lot. Apparently, the city is giving voters the chance to decide the fate of such constructions in some November elections. I didn't read too far into the article but it made me think about the issues with housing in big cities like SF that we have preciously talked about.

Apparently there were some protests in City Hall during a board of supervisors meeting in which supervisor David Campos introduced a bill putting a temporary moratorium on the construction of "market-rate residential developments."

What do you guys think about this recent development? Is it even recent, or has this been happening for a long time? How does this further impact the ability to live in San Francisco without sufficient means?

  1. All that crosses my mind is gentrification, gentrification, gentrification! The construction of such buildings will bring in Giant bandwagoners, who think its cool to live next to "AT&T park". I completely hate the fact that San Francisco's downtown area is becoming a place for narcissist who can afford to live in overpriced condos. This will open doors to begin planning and construction in other places in San Francisco where communities can eventually be displaced and will no longer be able to afford. Its important to have community members into consideration because after all they have been living in SF their whole lives and should have a say in what happens to their city. It has ben said that planing for this project started several years ago. So do they want people to think they are important and then just do what they ant anyway?
